Yanam Exise and police officials in a joint operation last night seized illicit arrack and spurious chemical stored at Guirempet in Yanam region of the union territory.
According to reports reaching here , Excise Deputy Tahsildar Shaiju and other officials on a tip off raided the area and found the liquor and other materials.During their checking they found 64 litres of Illicit arrack, three boxes of KnockOut Beer, Five arrack manufacturing copper pipes in a public bath room of the village.
Immediately, the officials reported the matter to Yanam Regional Administrator C.Ratnaghosh Kishore . He also reached the spot and seized the material and removed it to the exise office. The anti social elements of Guirempet and Savithrinagar villages are known for making illicit arrack and its sale.No arrest was made.According to sources, in these villages arrack is stored in houses and people from nearby Andhra villages used to frequent the villages and go back after consuming arrack, sold at cheap rate.
Sources charged that in Yanam region, the rates of India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) are sold at a very rate. The sources further charged that all liquor shops sell the IMFL more than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP). Because of this, people turn to cheap liquor made using chemicals which are hazardous to humans.
Following the seizure, a case was registered by Excise department and further investigations are on to trace the people involved in the storage of arrack.
