All India N R Congress Lok Sabha member from Puducherry R Radhakrishnan today urged the centre  to exempt Puducherry from the  National Eligibility-cum-Enterance Test(NEET).

In a statement here today,Mr.Radhakrishnan said since 2008 MBBS admission were on the basis  of plus two marks in Puducherry. However, with the Supreme court  recalling it’s 2013 judgement declaring  the NEET unconstitutional, arrangements to commence MBBS admissions on the basis of NEET is to be started.Since,MBBS admission was on the basis of the plus two marks in Puducherry,a good number of SC,BC and rural students were benifitted leading to the protection of social justice.Further,he said that under the Puducherry chief minister’s scheme of Kamaraj Educational Assistance scheme (Centac) several studens of Puducherry, karaikal, mahe and Yanam regions are now doctors.

In this backdrop,if the MBBS admissions were conducted on the basis of  NEET,Puducherry students will severly be affected ,he said and clarified that while, questions for the NEET will be under the central syllabus, the Puducherry students who pursued their  plus two under the uniform system of education  will be affected. With this, the dream of a poor rural student to  become a doctor  will be shattered,he said adding that hence, the union government  should intervene and exempt Puducherry from the NEET.
