Voter Varifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT)machines would be used in 68 polling stations in thre constituencies here in the May 16assembly elections in the union territory,chief electoral officer V Candavelou said here today.
Talking to newspersons here today,Mr.Candavelou said that the election department is making all arrangements to ensure a free,fair and peaveful elections here.The Electronic Voting machines required for the elections were tested and kept ready.He said as per the final electoral roll as many as 9.27 lakhs voters are there in the union territory.However, 9000 applications were received in the special camps for enrollment,deletion etc held and proper steps are being taken on the fresh applications.
Candavelou said VVPAT machines are being introduced in Ouppalam,Orleanpet and Karaikal (South) constituencies in the next elections.This would be installed in booths with less than1500 voters,he said adding that VVPAT machines will be installed in 68 polling booths.
Political parties were already given traning on all formalities of elections such as election expenses,submission of documents besides adhearing to the model code of conduct of elections,he said adding that randomization of EVMs on constituency wise also held.He also said that the department is getting complaints via Whatsaap and toll free telephones and are being considered.Application for enrollment will be accepted till April 29,he added.
District election officer Sundravadivelu,and deputy election officer Thillaivel were present.
The election department is according a training to sector officers and about 100 of them attended the training programme held at the Mother Teresa institute here today.Special officer Muralidharan who accord the training exhorted them to ensure a free and fair assembly elections.
