The Election Commission of india today expressed satisfaction on the poll prepareadness in the union territory except in preventive and enforcement activities.
Addressing a press conference here today after holding talks with Puducherry election officers,police officials,government officials and different political parties ,chief election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said that more need to be done din enforcement and preventive sectors.
The CEC said that 132 vulnerable hamplets have been identified and 19,000 persons as vulnerable and who can be intimidated.More security arrangements would be provided in these areas,he said adding that the deployment of central para military forces will be higher than last elections.All vulnerable booths will be covered by para military forces,he said.
Mr.Zaidi said that all polling booths in the union territory were covered by web-casting and added that Puducherry is the first in the country to achieve this.
The CEC said that the VVPAT wopuld be used in 67 polling booths of three constituencies ie, Orleanpet,Ouppalam and karaikal (South).
He said for the first time postcards wuld be send to all households inviting them to come out for voting.The commission is going to review the conduct and behavior of the officials.To a question on the transfer of the two district collectors here,he said that the commission wanted officials it has full faith to conduct the polls.Puducherry will have two counting stations besides the one each in Karaikal,mahe and yanam regions.
Mr.Zaidi said that the commission has directed the officials to prepare a comprehensive security plan up to the grassroot level and the deployment plan will be approved on the basis of the report of observers.He said 47 Non-bailable warrants were executed and 119 pending will be executed very fast.The canvassing time for election has been extended till 10 Pm,he added.
